NOTE: This is an old article that has been asked to be re-published here. It was previously on our old website on wordpress. It includes comments posted that users have found helpful as well.
After hundreds of comments and over 8,000 views on our previous post on various ways to get BlackRa1n running, I’ve narrowed it down to a checklist you can follow to ensure that frodo will do his magic on your idevice. If there is anything I missed please let me know.
From various comments on the last post, it appears that BlackRa1n CAN run on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. So if you think it’s your OS, it’s probably not. I myself have had success with an iPhone 3G on both Windows XP and Windows 7. It has also been reported that you can be on any firmware 3.0+ and it should work, so that narrows it down to the fact that it is not the OS or the firmware. Which doesn’t really narrow it down by much.
Other’s also reported that performing a backup restore prevents it from working, which again is not true. I had restored my backup after updating to 3.1.2 and some apps before Jailbreaking successfully. So scratch that.
Not every point in this list will be necessary however, to increase your success rate, I highly recommend following them.
So the checklist begins:
0. Log in as the Administrator
1. Perform a backup/sync in iTunes for safety
2. Check if you have the file QTCF.dll, in C: / Windows/System32. If you dont have, you can download it from here. [Thanks to UltraLord]
3. Remove any passlocks you may have on the phone.
4. Enable “Airplane Mode” under Settings
5. Open iTunes and disable all Syncing (Check the first comment for a detailed breakdown of how to disable this)
6. Open Taks Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and kill the following processes if open: iTunesHelper.exe iTunes.exe, AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe, msdnresponder.. (any i missed?)
7. Leave AppleMobileService.exe running for now. (might be required to end it after stuck in a mode)
8. Unplug your phone/ipod.
9. Download BlackRa1n to the root of your C:/ drive.
10. Right click blackra1n.exe and choose Run As.. then enter the Administrator credentials. Uncheck the “Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity” option. If you see “This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer” then unsure you unblock it. (this step may be skipped, but not sure. Haven’t confirmed if this is needed. Some worked without) (You can also try Compatibility Mode)
11. Click Make It Rain, when prompted, connect iPhone. If things went alright , you should see Frodo’s face and and Voila. If not, continue reading.
BlackRa1n says “Entering Recovery Mode” but my iPhone is not entering recovery mode. Or my iPhone is stuck on the iTunes/USB Restore screen and blackra1n still says “Entering Recovery Mode” or my iPhone turned off and won’t boot, blackra1n says “Entering Recovery Mode”
1. Press the power button and the home at a time and when you see the icon of the apple release the power but keep pressing the home until you see the photo of geohot with the Iphone. Let go home then.
2. Turn the phone off complete ly by unplugging USB cord. (Note Blackra1n is still running in the background) Plug it back in and try setp 2 again.
BlackRa1n has entered my iPhone into Recovery mode, and now says “Running…” but nothing is happening. I still see the iTunes/USB Restore screen on my iPhone/iPod.
If this is the case, try the following:
1. Close blackra1n and try opening it Again
2. Try terminating the process AppleMobileService.exe. (May require you to unplug/reboot your iPhone or Running BlackRa1n again)
3. [more suggestions from comments to be entered]
I’ll try and add some more scenarios. If anyone has anything they want to add, please feel free.
COMMENTS

asy – disable auto-syncing. Here’s how:
1. Before you plug the iPhone or iPod into the computer, go to iTunes.
2. On a Mac, go to the iTunes menu -> Preferences -> Devices.
On a PC, go to Edit -> Settings -> Devices
3. In the pop up window, look for the icon or tab that says Devices. Choose it.
4. Just below the box, you’ll see a checkbox reading disable auto-syncing for iPhone and iPod.
5. Check it and click OK at the bottom of the window.
Auto-sync is now turned off and you’re safe to plug your iPod or iPhone into the computer.
blackra1n FIX!!!!!
1. Run blackra1n
2. After your iPod is completely shut off, hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds. IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!! After 10 seconds exactly, release only the Power button still holding the Home button. If you see an Apple logo, you held power too long. The trick is to release the Power button right before the Apple logo would appear, still holding the Home button. In about 6-10 seconds you should see a picture of nature boy. Then your all good from there. If you see the USB to iTunes, something went wrong. JUST MAKE SURE YOU RELEASE POWER BEFORE THE APPLE LOGO APPEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is what worked for me on Windows Vista. I was stuck on “running” forever. After long hours trying to figure out the problem, I finally got it to rain.
If you have more than one user accounts on the same computer, chances are that itunes is probably running on the other profiles. This was why i was stuck on “running”. The solution was go to Task Manager and select Processes. At the bottom of the Task Manager there will be a check box that says “Show processes for all users” or something like that. After that you just look for any process that is itunes related and “End process tree”. After I did that, it rained instantly. This was after I tried all the tips/tricks listed on this site.
Thanks….went to task manager and did what you said and BOOM!!! That’s after I tried everything else listed on the checklist. Thanks again.
My ipod touch keeps getting stuck on either the Ipod/usb screen or wait for reboot screen. :\
i dont get it. help?
Im going to end up pulling my hair out..
im doing everything it says to do…i used david program, and it still goes to the stupid usb/itunes screen. HELP PLEASEEEE.
Also uncheck the Auto Sync pref in the iPhone’s Summary Screen.
RE-BOOT YR COMPUTER AFTER INSTALLING BLACKRA1N ON YR COMPUTER. put yr device in AIRPLAINE MODE then PRESS MAKE IT RA1N http://twitpic.com/lbfkg JUST INSTALL CYDIA. i did this on my iphone 3g
thanks that helped ALOT!
this method worked flawlessly for me as well.
Previously, blackra1n would hang on “entering recovery mode” and show the USB -> iTunes on the phone, even after using the Power + Home button method.
After reading a hundred different posts the only way I could get it to work was deleting the USB Controllers in Windows and Rebooting. Let it reinstall them on bootup and then try Blackra1n again.
Dont need to worry about all the other stuff if this is your problem. What made me come to this conclusion? I jailbroke one phone without an issue. Tried another one a day later and it wouldn’t work. Check the Log file. It will mention USB a lot.
None of those instructions worked for me, still stuck on the itunes recovery screen. Have yet to see Frodo Baggins on my iPhone
Try ending the process AppleMobileService.exe.
If that doesn’t work then unplugging the phone and plugging it back in. If needed try and run blackra1n again.
Blackra1n didn’t work for me.. So i tried something else… I looked online and googled a bunch of ideas and found a 3.1.2 ipsw that someone made that was jb and had cydia on it.. I put that file in iTunes, then did a restore with that file.. It got stuck in dfu, so I dl’d ireb to work and brown chicken brown cow… It worked!! My iphn3g 3.1.2 is jb’d.. Very happy!!
Yup, there should be lots now that PwnageTool 3.1.4 came out for the Mac and 3.1.2 firmware. In fact, I’ll put together one right now for the 3G with Cydia installed. Will post link shortly.
ireb??????
Hi,
I saw your post, where did you find that custom file I can seem to find one that works
Thanks
Okay so I was having this problem where BlackRa1n would show as running, however my iPhone screen was stuck at the iTunes/USB Restore screen. I tried shutting down the phone while BlackRa1n was still “running” then entered recovery mode again and Frodo finally appeared. Not the “easiest” jailbreak.
i try everythings, shut down computer, shut down iphone, press home+power, shut down itune, shut down blackra1n, and my phone get back to normal old face, and I try JB again, again stuck in “entering recovery…” with itune/USB logo, what can I do??!?!?
I made a batch program that automates this whole process fro the iPhone 3G on windows xp, vista or 7, just copy and past the following code into notepad and save it as helper.bat

Thanks David, the helper.bat worked! The steps weren’t hard but if you don’t know it, it’s nearly impossible to get it just right. Great Job!
thanks so much i had tried all the other little nit picky tips and they didnt work, then with that all i had to do was copy and paste that into comand prompt and it work, i had been working on this for so long then this finnaly helped me, this was just as a good of find as the whole blackra1n thing, thanx!!
wow u have got to say your helper.bat is the best solution so far. i have tried all the solutions listed here, but none work. your helper.bat did e trick!
thanks bro
This helper.bat thing works like a charm! Thank you for creating this!
Dude, you saved my day. Thanks for that script (Y)
JESUS.
Thank you, holy hell all that time it just needed to have the home button held in!
I love you, you are forever my friend
Cheers,
Aemyn
I still cant get it to work D;<<<
i followed your steps and everything…
WOW! AMAZING WORK DAVID!
Everything worked, but failed to see blackra1n on my iphone after reboot. Any suggestions?

[...] Problem with Blackra1n? Try this BlackRa1n not working for you? The BlackRa1n Fix Checklist Cydia Updates That Matter [...]
Tried everything. Didn’t work. Not a very good solution if you ask me.
How I got it to work on my iPhone 3G:
I Closed iTunes, iTuneshelper.exe, and Windows Defender , left iPod services running.
Turned off iPhone and connected to different USB port (front one)
Ran blackra1n from Desktop as admin, no compatibity mode
blackra1n says waiting for iPhone..
Turned on iPhone, as soon as it booted it restarted
seen geohots pic… It then ra1ned
before this I tried like 10 times… Hope this helps someone.
Worked for me too.
Try to use a different USB-port.
i second this. Changing the USB port worked.
Joh,
I tried many many many and too many times in different ways running blackra1n, it just DOESN’T WORK!!!
Only your solution helps
Thanks!
it in the “entering recovery…” plus itune/USB page again… not work…
Jon, you are my hero. Thank youuuu.
I did everything to try to make it work but nothing!!!! BUT I just notice a Unlock content button on ….>>> Right Click on blackra1n icon (installed in C:) Properties … General … It was a legend saying > the content could be locked because was transfered from other computer. next to it was the UNLOCK button i clicked on it and choose the compatibility XP(sp3) and it WORKS FINALLY. [I am Running Windows 7] .. I Hope It helps You !!!
OH MY GOD!!! So Stupid I was. I read billion times of reminder about turn off the security of blackra1n icon, but I just don’t know it was in “property” page, now success JB!!! damxx … thanks billion!!
I tried everything i could find to make this work on vista.
Then saw a comment above that said they tried it WITHOUT compatability mode turned on.
I gave this ago and it worked straight away!!!
All i can say is “cheers Jon”
yeah without the compability mode it works great
finally i jailbroken mine
thanks Jon!
10 Tries, wouldn’t work
I tried the above two steps
First kill all apple related processes except applemobiledeviceservice
1. Switch USB Port
2. Go to blackra1n’s properties and unblock the crap
3. Connect 30pin connector
4. Turn off normally
5. open black rain and click makeitrain
6. power on iphone normally
7. give it a sec, don’t panic when the USB/iTunes screen comes up again. Creepy pic should pop up in a moment. Let it run
Done
One other thought for the helper.bat program, right click c:\blackra1n.exe and select properties, click on compatibility tab and check “Run this program as an administrator”. Copy the code below and paste it into notepad, then save it to the desktop as helper.bat. right click on helper.bat and select “Run as administrator”. Please follow the instructions in helper.bat before clicking on “Make it rain”. I really hope this helps everyone out
Please let me know if it helps you out, Props to geohot!

been trying EVERYTHING all day…it worked once but cydia crashed cuz i installed at the same time as icy…now it wont work anymore…i keep getting to the “running” part and the usb & iTunes screen on my 3g
I tried like 10 times but every time it failed. It froze after ‘entering recovery’.
I followed Jons advice and it worked!
Cheers mate.
Tried everything – finally tried a different USB port and suddenly it worked. NOT the easiest, though on windows I had little choice. All the custom IPSWs I found failed one way or another.
heres how to make it work , reply if works, worked for me when nothing else would,
create a guest account or log off windows on to your non main guest account
sign on the guest account
run blackra1n
bam working…
“create a guest account or log off windows on to your non main guest account

Definitely not the easiest jailbreak I’ve done.
Ran off root of C:
Ran as administrator
Unblocked permissions
Killed Apple services
Tried it and failed at running, restarted phone and got lucky. This literally took me two hours to do until I got lucky and it worked.
sux bro, i tried everything for hours also, the only thing that worked for me was what i posted
dont give up!
i changed my usb wire it worked perfectly
[...] Re: Jailbreak for 3.1 / 3.2.1 out today taken from another site this is for if 1. Update to 3.1.2 fw 2. Backup iPhone 3. Close iTunes and open Windows task manager and close ituneshelper.exe 4. i’m using a Mac…

i tried the home+power button, then releasing at the apple…
i turned on Airplane mode and removed locks..
i turned off automatic syncing in iTunes…
i tried a different USB port…
nothing.
any ideas?
try on a different pc , maybe you own a laptop also? just install blackrain and itunes if you have to
I have tried everything.
It worked perfectly when I downloaded a fresh copy of blackra1n.
The previous one was downloaded by a friend and I copied it to my computer.
It’s worth a try.

1. Print these instructions as your PC will be turned off soon.
2. Right-click the Internet Explorer and choose Run As Administrator
3. Download BlackRa1n to your C Drive.
4. DO NOT Run in Compatability Mode with Windows XP (other people have made this fatal error).
5. Put your iPhone on Airplane Mode (This is Vital).
6. Have your iPhone on and plug it into your PC.
7. Restore your iPhone (Not Restore & Update) to Version 3.1.2 by holding Shift and clicking Restore and choosing the IPSW file for 3.1.2.
8. Open My Computer, Right-Click the C-Drive, Choose Properties, Click “Disk CleanpuP,” Choose Files from All Users, Wait 2 minutes, Check all Boxes, Delete Files.
9. When the iPhone finishes restoring and takes you to the iTunes page, Decline the Update, Choose Setup as New Phone, Do not Restore, Uncheck Sync boxes, Click Done.
10. Wait 60 seconds for the iPhone to activate itself (just be patient damnit).
11. Restart your Computer.
12. Upon reboot, open iTunes and make sure iTunes detects the iPhone. Uncheck auto-sync on the iPhone screen and also click Edit>Preference>Devices Tab>Check the Box Saying not to sync

17. Some people have said this does it. If it doesn’t, worry. *** Others have had to complete the next few steps to get it.
18. This will fail evidenced by the iTunes USB Screen that doesn’t change.
19. Hold both power and home until it reboots. When you see the Apple logo release both buttons and leave it alone.
20. It should go back to its original state.
21. Close Blackra1n and all open windows.
22. Re-open Blackra1n as Administator.
23. Click “Make it RA1N.
24. As sooon as the iPhone powers down in response, hold both the power button and home button. When the Apple logo appears, release the power button but continue
holding the home button until you see Frodo.
Unable to open blackra1n on my mac???
My iPod touch never finished rebooting, it just enters a fully unresponsive state after Frodo disappears.
If you have a problem with Itunes connect screen staying on go these steps can help:
1.) start from springboard not the itunes connect screen.
2.) If running vista run as administrator with the file on the C:/ drive
3.) Open task manager and go to services and stop bonjour service and Ipod Service.
4.) click make it rain on blackra1n program.
No shit you cant open blackra1n on a mac. Its windows only.
Its your faggot asses fault that apple doesnt need to worry about customer support in the first place.
Go use redsnow.

THIS WORKED!
THANKS SO MUCH!
I tried like endless times in different computer but no luck at last it worked ..when i was least expecting it
The funny thing is that i DID’NT have to End any of the above mentioned task like ituneshelper , ipodservice, applemobiledevic etc
also i run blackra1n.exe from my desktop (windows xp/sp3)
For some strange reason i believe you need to have the latest firmware 3.1.2 downloaded to your system (you can do this by pressing restore)
Here is the step that got me working
1)Install the latest i tunes
2)Connect iphone3g click restore ( It will download the latest firmware the 3.1.2)
3)closed itunes , then switched off the phone then switched it back on
4)start blackra1n.exe and clicked make it rain
5)luckily this times fraddo baggins(geohot pic) came to the screen at the same times itunes popped saying it detected an iphone in restore mode i closed it promptly, after a while the phone restarted itself and was jailbroken
hours and hours tryng to make blackra1n to work…
DOWNLOAD IT AGAIN! and BAM worked
HELP! I used blackra1n and the second error here occured. I closed blackra1n, and unplugged the iPhone, but it is still at the iTunes and USB screen. I tried re-plugging and re-running blackra1n numerous times, but nothing is happening.
More info:
I am using 3.12
Sometimes, after re-plugging it, a minute or so later, a notice appears on the task bar saying that there is a malfunctioning USB and that it’s not recognized.
Follow my damn instructions! READ
Built the helper.bat file, followed instructions.
On Win7, right clicked blackra1n, chose “troubleshoot compatibility”, put me into admin and winxp SP2 mode for compatibility.
Then ran helper.bat without exiting any of the services (helper.bat does this for you).
Switched USB ports from the front to the back.
Finally after my fourth time running the helper.bat file trying a few different things, IT WORKED. Took a couple hours, so I think YOUR solution may be just to try a few different things until everything finally works.
The geohat picture shows up about 20-30 seconds after reboot, so be patient while holding the home button.
follow these steps exactly it worked when nothing else did
http://wickmanstudios.com/content/view/26/1/
I’ve tried everything in the list and in the comments on both XP Pro laptop and Vista Ultimate desktop. No luck. looking in the log and it says usb open failed while sending command quite a bit. any suggestions?
Thanks
Yeah, I have a suggestion: read my damn post.
Got it using the following steps:
iPhone rebooted.
1) connect iPhone to USB
2) open iTunes
3) backed up iPhone and restored to factory.
4) after factory restore closed iTunes
5) turned off iPhone
6) opened blackra1n clicked “Make it Ra1n”
7) held power and home button releasing power when apple logo appeared. continued holding home until say frodo.
9) opened iTunes and restored my backup.
Thanks to everyone for information.

NOTE: THIS WORKS WITH BASEBAND 5.11.07 !!!!!!!!!
Look, go ahead and delete my previous post and pay attention to this one. The problem lies in Vista 64-bit systems for the vast majority of people having problems. I know some of you are suggesting “just keep trying,” but I am someone that did ‘keep trying’ but mapped-out each and every action until I got it right. The steps are listed below. If you wanna listen to some Brit on YouTube or empty suggestions of “keep trying” from others, be my guest. I didn’t create this detailed process because I have no life. I’m married and attend law school. I did it because I know how much it sucks to have to figure it out on your own. It took me 26 hours to figure this out, so just take one hour to follow the process and you’ll save yourself 3 redbulls and 2 near-crying incidents.
Here it is:
Note: This for for Vista Home Premium 64-bit Users
Note: This is with firmware 3.1.2 with 5.11.07 baseband preinstalled.

13. Close iTunes
14. Right click the bottom task bar and choose “Task Manager,” then on the bottom-left click “Show processes from all users, then close everything except AppleDeviceServices.
15. Make sure your iPhone is still in Airplane Mode.
16. Right-click Blackra1n and choose “Run As Administrator,” and when it open click on the “Make it Rain” button.
25. YOU’RE DONE.
26. To fix the AppSync issue, Google “App_Patch_For_OS_3.0_3.0.1_3.1_3.1.2_by_Rizwan”
You totally rock! Thanks for the steps. Also, I did what Mike said.
(Quoting:)
blackra1n FIX!!!!!
(/End Quote)
I did it for 14 seconds instead of 10. (Used my clock)… on 15 seconds the Apple Logo appears. It worked like magic… after 2 hours of pain.
Interesting twist, but I think this is only applicable to iPods.
I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone running all the specifics I was, which includes Windows Home Vista 64-bit with iPhone firmware 3.1.2 and baseband 5.11.07
You still gotta give props to GeoHotz. Although he created more of a custom jailbreak for his specific product running on his specific system subject to variations on different products and systems, he still did one hell of a job.
GeoHotz: Try creating something more universal next time.
New version of helper.bat: It walks you through the entire process in live time. It auto kills all processes that need to be killed and sets permissions for c:/blackra1n.exe for full control. Just copy and paste the code below to notepad and save it as helper.bat. I hope this helps

I have an mc models and when geohotz appears it turns off and it turns into a non responsive mode and it doesnt worf if i hold the power button and the hold button, it stays like that and i have to restore it.
ive been trying a million times but it doesnt work
plzz heeeeellpp!!!!!!!!
ok so ive tried absolutely everything! ive got a 3gs 16gb on 3.1.2 which i updated to yesterday. ive factory reset my phone. ive tried everything.
when i open the blackra1n log it says
error:usb open failed while sending command
error:usb open failed while sending payload
I figure this is the problem.. all that happens is that i click make it ra1n and it goes into recovery, it says running and then it comes up saying done, wait for reboot. the phone just has a black, slighly illuminated screen.. when i reset it, there is no jailbreak.. please help!
ive tried for days using my vista computer and i couldnt get it to work.. i tried it once on an xp machine and it did it first go.. if you are having lots of problems please use an XP machine, ull save alot of hassle
when i use BlackRa1n it has entered my iPhone into Recovery mode, and now says “Running…” but nothing is happening and i still see the iTunes/USB Restore screen on my iPhone n i tryed so many times but the problem is same plz help me
Well I just used blackra1n from my macbook pro. couldnt get it to work.
tried pwnagetool, no luck.
took a break.
came back to it.
read all the comments on this page.
deleted blackra1n.
restarted my computer.
downloaded it again, restart again.
turned the phone off.
made it rain.
it said waiting for device.
I turned the phone on.
it did its thing.
i held down home and power button.
but not for very long.
it went to the frodo screen while i was holding them.
i quickly let go and let it do its thing.
fyi this was on my 3G.
I also hope it never takes this long to jailbreak my phone ever again. The two times i have done it before (2.2 and 3.0) it was flawless and effortless. This still has room for improvement.
Thanks for all the useful comments on this page!
blackra1n worked for me after about 25 tries over two days of various work arounds. I’m not sure if any of the above steps for disabling ituneshelper, appleservices, etc made a difference. The way I got it to work was to just keep hitting the makeitrain button while the phone rebooted to the apple logo everytime. Eventually it worked.
[...] Thanks for the reply sargd, that got me going in the right direction. I also found some good info here. Hope this helps someone else stuck as I was. Happier now __________________ iPhone: there is [...]
Just dont fu*** work, all steps repeated and the iphone just wont jailbreak, recovery mode, frodo apears,it reboots and after is jailbroken

I used to run blackra1n on my iTouch 2g 3.1.2 under WinXp. frodo apears,it reboots then never wakes up! iTunes detects my iPod in recovery mode. LibUsb detects it as Apple Mobile Device (DFU Mode). What i did already but failed:
1. I click Restore, iTunes connects to server and gives me a 2.2.1 update instead of 3.1.2?
2. I shift+click and browsed different custom firmwares that I downloaded but always give a 1601 error.
3. Kill all ipod/itunes processes.
Hold both power & home buttons down for 10 seconds, and release power while still holding home until a beep sound because of a USB connection.
4. Used iREB V3.1.2, still no display.
What else could i missed for my ipod to wake up?
Finally I did It!
MANNY THANKS!
TTTTHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAANNNNNKKKKK UUUUUU!!!!!!!!!
should wifi be on??
For me, nothing has worked until I decided to disable the network interface from them PC.
The problem that I was facing: stuck in “waiting for device” screen.
Then the make it rain worked like a charm, and now my iphone is jailbroken. Try disabling the internet adapter and see if it works.
Anyone – please help me.
:(:(:(
My iphone don’t show recovery-mode. It only shuts down, turns up again and shows Geohot – and without restarting it just shows the home screen again…. without a blackra1n logo
HEEELP!!!
i’v got the same problem someone
any suggestions?
I have tried many things, but one thing really worked, and I saw the Picture from geohot and it rebooted. This is what I had done:
Open Taks Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and kill the following processes if open: iTunesHelper.exe iTunes.exe, AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe, msdnresponder Ipodservice.exe.
I did this and everything went alright, so try this!
Hope I helped.!
Thanks Leroy
I have tried all the methods mentioned above for hours with no luck, until I restarted my PC and followed your method and guess what…?
It worked man thanks a lot
I don’t know if it’s luck or blackra1n is unstable program, but finally it worked.
I’m running XP pro and the device is 3G factory unlocked
I just got my 32bg touch yesterday.
It is the MC008LL version.
blackra1n hangs on running…
Tried every possible fix.
ANy suggestions ?
After some more researching, I found out that my current version of iBoot is 359.5
Any workarounds for this yet ?
Thx
after a couple days of trying and researching with no success on my computer running xp i tried a different computer running vista home premium 32 bit.
i ended all the apple and itunes processes.
i unblocked blackra1n in the properties and did NOT run in compatibility mode for xp.
i ran as admin made it ra1n and it worked perfectly fine!
let me know if this helps!!
What the heck, that will be great post ^_^… i learned something new though reading up in here … ehehe thanks anyway for the information
JUST DO EVERYTHING ON THE CHECKLIST – NOTHING ELSE WORKED FOR ME – THIS DID!!! THANKS!!!
I’ve tried shed lots of times and tried pretty much every single thing on here, it appears to work fine, but when I reboot the device it comes up with the connect to itunes screen and just sits there.
I should probably says it’s a 3gs 2 days old from apple running:
Version: 3.1.2 (7D11)
Baseband: 05.11.07
Can anybody post or recommend and equivalent guide for Mac?
(Tried Blackra1n, got JD but not unlock. Tried again: Blackra1n just hung; eventually restored via iTunes. Would like to know if it is safe to run Blackra1n again & how to turn off iTunes while the JB program is running –I think that was the problem)
What happens if everything runs ok but no blackra1n icon then when hard rest or turn phone on and off you get phone in dfu mode Very frustrating
i had to re-jailbreak for reasons
and blackra1n said QTCF.dll was not found, then i followed the steps and it worked, thanks!
You dont need that qtcf.dll file. You dont have to push any buttons. You dont have to cancel any processes. Just close itunes after you restore and restart your phone before you jailbreak. Dont use compatibility mode. Placing the phone in airplane mode may have helped. Just plug your phone powered on and run blackra1ne as an administrator. I think the problem is that nobody is telling people to restart their phones after they restore.
I use vista 32 bit
I kept having that annoying cant find the QTCGF what ever file even when i put in it my system 32 file.
But what did work was when i saved blackrain to c/ i put the dll file in the same place and it worked.
hope this helps with that problem
I thought I screwed up by upgrading my iPhone to v 3.1…then endless searches for a solution has finally helped me JB my phone & unlock the carrier for me.Fuzzyband did not work for me due to the baseband issue (5.8) Thanks to GeoHot’s blackra1n RC3 it is working now…After you install & run blackra1n RC3 to JB your phone also install the Sn0w software found here and it should make your OS v 3.1.2 and baseband 5.11 work on any carrier..Cheers GeoHot!!
Awesome program!! Could not be easier to use.
Just put it on a USB or memory card, turn off phone and run!
GREAT JOB GUYS
Took it out of XP compatibility mode and ran it in Vista. Worked as advertised
i feel like a noob but i thought i share. i have been trying everything, that is listed on here but still couldnt get blackra1n to work but then i updated my USB drive and it work right away… so make sure you update your USB drive
right click on “my computer”
properties> hardware tab> device manger> (if you see any yellow question mark that say anything about usb)> right click on it> properties> driver tab> update driver> then hit next on everything (it should update itself w/o the disk).
hope this helps =]
When I click make it ra1n it says “windows has stopped working windows us checking for a solution to the problem …”
how do I fix this?
I have an iPod touch 3g 3.1.2
ive used blackra1n befor and it worked fine but my phone craped out again and ni restored it and used blackra1n but the icon is not on my phone i need help asap please help i need to unlock my phone ive tried everything

At me worked with John’s guidelines…nice stuff !
Thanks man!
I got stuck on that usb/itunes screen on my 1st attempt. Ended up doing a clean install of OS via restore on itunes. Then followed the guide at the top with the addition of selecting all users in task manager to make sure I had all those processes shut down. Then 1st go, bang all done in a couple of minutes. That usb/itunes screen appeared for no more than 30 seconds and then yer man appeared. Thanks for the help. Now have to go and sort out all the other issue like wifi.
Hi- spoke too soon. I stuck in another non O2 sim (vodafone), i get bars for service but there seems to be loads of menus missing. The shortcuts I had along the bottom (green phone etc) are missing. So I have no way to enter a number to call! Can anyone tell me how to get this stuff back?
